Overview
The Reviews module collects star ratings and written comments from customers after they complete an order. You can control whether reviews are collected and whether they appear publicly, reply to reviews, and hide or delete individual entries.
Go to Restaurant → Reviews to manage all reviews.
How Customers Submit Reviews
- Customer logs into the Customer Portal (
/customer). - In Recent Orders, any completed or paid order shows a Leave a Review button.
- Customer selects a star rating (1–5) and writes an optional comment (max 1,000 characters).
- Submits — one review per order maximum.
Reviews are submitted immediately and appear in the admin panel. Visibility on the public storefront depends on your settings (see below).
Review Settings
Go to Settings → General → Review Settings to configure two toggles:
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Enable Review System | When off, the "Leave a Review" button disappears from the customer portal entirely. No new reviews can be submitted. Existing reviews are preserved but no new ones are accepted. |
| Show Reviews on Website | When off, the reviews section is hidden from your public storefront even if reviews exist and are individually marked as visible. Use this to collect reviews privately without displaying them. |
The Reviews Dashboard
The Restaurant → Reviews page shows:
- Average Rating — calculated across all reviews for your restaurant.
- Rating Breakdown — count of reviews at each star level (1–5).
- Review List — paginated at 20 per page, newest first.
Filters
- Rating — show only 1-star, 2-star, etc. reviews.
- Visibility — filter by visible or hidden reviews.
Actions on Individual Reviews
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Toggle Visibility | Show or hide a review on the public storefront. Useful for filtering out spam or unhelpful reviews without deleting them. Hidden reviews remain in the admin panel. |
| Reply | Write a response (max 1,000 characters) that appears below the review on the storefront. Replying is a best practice for both positive and negative reviews — it shows potential customers you are attentive. You can update a reply at any time. |
| Delete | Permanently remove the review. The customer is not notified. Once deleted, the review cannot be recovered. |
Reviews on the Public Storefront
When Show Reviews on Website is on, the reviews section appears on your restaurant's public page showing:
- Overall star average and breakdown chart.
- Individual visible reviews with customer name, star rating, comment, date, and your reply (if any).
Hidden reviews are not shown to the public regardless of the global toggle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a customer edit or delete their own review?
No. Once submitted, reviews cannot be edited or deleted by the customer. They can contact you through other means if they want a change. As admin, you can delete the review on their behalf.
Why is a review not appearing on the storefront even though it is marked visible?
Check that Show Reviews on Website is enabled in Settings → General. If that toggle is off, no reviews appear publicly regardless of individual visibility settings.
Can I prevent negative reviews from appearing?
You can hide individual reviews using the Toggle Visibility action. There is no automatic filter by star rating. As a best practice, replying to negative reviews professionally is more effective than hiding them.
Is there a notification when a new review is submitted?
Currently there is no real-time notification for new reviews. Check the Reviews page regularly or set a reminder to review new submissions.
Do delivery and takeaway orders also get review prompts?
Yes. Any completed or paid order — dine-in, delivery, or takeaway — shows the review button in the customer portal once it reaches paid or completed status.
